Cracovia may soon add one of its most experienced players to its staff – 38‑year‑old defender Kamil Glik openly said he is considering a coaching role after hanging up his boots. Since joining the white‑red side in August 2024, Glik stresses that his future is tightly linked to football and to Cracovia.

Is Glik really planning to stay at Cracovia?

In a local newspaper interview Glik left no doubt – “if there is an opportunity to work for Cracovia, I would consider it very seriously.” His words sound like a signal to the board that the club could retain one of its key locker‑room leaders. The defender admitted he has been thinking about life after football for several years, and his experience with the national team and abroad could bring fresh quality to the coaching staff.

What does this mean for the team mid‑season?

Cracovia currently sits 13th in the Ekstraklasa with 42 points from 34 games (9 wins, 15 draws, 10 losses) and a recent form of DDDDD. The side has conceded 42 goals while scoring 39, a minus‑three goal difference. In a race where they are 18 points behind leaders Lech Poznań, any stabilising factor is priceless. Glik, known for his on‑field leadership, could help younger players, especially 23‑year‑old Oskar Wójcik, whom he described as a “revelation” last season.

What do staff and fans say?

Coach Maciej Stolarczyk highlighted that Glik has “special relationships” with the younger squad and can “tease” in a friendly way, building trust in the dressing room. Fans also value his openness and regional involvement – he has lived near Kraków for several years, is building a house and plans a long‑term future in Lesser Poland. “I’m from Silesia, but I feel at home here,” he said, adding that he and his wife intend to spend the rest of their lives in the area.

What’s next after retirement?

Glik does not rule out a coaching role, but also mentions possibilities as a brand ambassador or youth development advisor. His rich résumé – 103 caps for Poland, spells in Torino and Monaco – could attract young talent and raise the profile of Cracovia’s academy. The decision will be made after the season, but the club already has a chance to prepare a smooth transition, leveraging the knowledge and authority of one of its legendary players.
